Introduction

Government of Punjab has recently launched the Punjab IT Labs Project, where 4,268 IT labs have been set-up in secondary and higher secondary government schools of Punjab. The project has been officially inaugurated on the 4th December 2009. As a next step, effective strategies must be put in place for optimum utilization of these labs. In this context, the Center for Research in Urdu Language Processing (CRULP) at National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES) in collaboration with the Punjab IT Labs Project of the Government of Punjab is organizing a seminar entitled “Integrating IT in Education: Language, Curriculum and Training Challenges in Government Schools of Punjab.”

This seminar aims to address issues and challenges that arise in the integration of the IT labs into teaching and learning activities in government schools of Punjab. The invited speakers at the seminar will highlight theoretical and practical factors concerning IT curriculum design, general curriculum enrichment through IT, teacher training, the language factor in education, digital content and e-learning, online child safety and practical implementation challenges.
